happy holidays

This image reinforces my belief that the Vespa isn’t the most functional vehicle.

hidden message poster

dirty

The Dirt Poster by Roland Reiner Tiangco represents a boost in a stale category–oversize typographic posters, usually carrying witty messages. Requiring participation to complete it the back side of each poster is covered with a layer of ink, which you need to “paint” onto the front side the poster, to reveal the message that has been spot-varnished onto the paper. I love it when someone combines my two passions: Sci-Fi & anything South Park-related….Via i09.

holiday week

epic-fail-santa-fail1

I’m taking this and next week off to celebrate my inability to carry paid time off into next year. I will be posting sporadically at best…

As someone who works in designing UI for Public Safety Applications I couldn’t help but post this. What’s great is that TV detective shows clipped into this montage have literally scared criminals into thinking that everything recorded can be retrieved and later used as evidence. Via Giz.

ubiquity of data and future mining

You have to hear it yourself to do the discussion justice but Ira Flatow heats it up on this week’s edition of Science Friday talking about mobile data with professors from both CMU and UCLA’s computing programs. Oh, and if you didn’t know your phone has had GPS on it since around 2000 then you might want to be sitting down while listening.

mobile mobile

This bad boy hangs in the lobby of an interactive design firm in London and is composed of 50 upcycled cell phones. How can you not love it? Check out the behind the scenes ‘how to’ is available here. Best part is you can use their virtual keyboard online to play a song which will remotely play on a phone in the mobile in a real time. Found it while meandering on Vimeo last night.

wright restaurant

Other than the curvilinear walls of this space I think the architect Andre Kikoski may have missed his mark if he claims he was inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s entire body of work. I can see this as being strongly influenced by the Guggenheim since the treatment of the space is consistent with the underlying nature of the museum but I would consider this as a stylistic extension of that vocabulary.  That being said I heart the colors in the wall facade and fiber optic integration but hate the contrast in the bench material. I’m sure that it works well within the building which gives me another reason to long for a trip to NYC since it’s been over a year now…… Via Contemporist.

vintage foreign movie posters

500x_japanese_bullit_poster

Why do these always look that much cooler in nature than their domestic counterparts? It might be the fact that seeing text in another language removes context from the equation (since I am not familiar with the Japanese alphabet) and makes me focus more on the typographic nature of the characters rather than ignoring them when I understand them. That might also be why I am not bothered by the amount of text vs. images since it’s fairly type heavy. Regardless, this poster is awesome and I would want it for the holidays if I only knew where to find it.

The hexadecimal color #BADA55 is apparently this particular shade of light green. If you want to buy an entire can of paint yourself, here is the source code. Brought to you by the good folks at F.A.T. via TodayandTomorrow.
