When is a soccer ball is more than a soccer ball? Apparently it’s going to be at least 2014 or so when we find out, but thise forward-thinking (insert game-changing pun here) concept is awesome nonetheless. It’s a nice process piece for mystery design collective Agent. Check the process video here.

It somehow looks more graphic and pathetic in tilt shift, but suitably childish at the same time. it definitely needs another editing pass, and maybe a different sound track but otherwise the concept is perfect. Via Digg.
Would have been 10x better set to some Drum and Bass from the likes of Aphex Twin, but it’s still cooler to watch than sitting there in person trying to locate the one person you know among the several hundred people running. Plus everyone is in a lot of pain on stage.

It’s old news but I totally heart this picture….Talk about needing to do a dry run! In typical Texan style I wouldn’t be shocked if brash cockiness overtook the logic behind testing something before marching it out (literally) for Primetime. I’m sure we will find them scrambling when experiencing bugs of this public nature mid-season. Genius. Via failblog.org.

I am annoyed by three individuals that regularly work out at the same time I do. They grunt and yelp a lot which I can hear over my own in-ear headphones. Sometimes I see one or two of them but today I was treated with all three. One also has issues with applying deodorant, which makes about as much sense as the dog in the photo above.

Anyone else keeping tabs on this in between dinner and falling asleep? Contador is one hell of a contender and Lance Armstrong is still within striking distance of winning at Stage 19. I strongly recommend following the final stages as the race comes to a close because things are heating up out there, even for non-biking fans/Armstrong haters.

I think it’s about time to bounce back in the cross city series. No comments on individual performances or management need to be made.

Was I the only one that hated swimming lessons, swim team, and just about everything encapsulated in the image above? I still hate the old naked dudes in locker rooms across the world that have no shame about seemingly putting pants on absolute last. Image via Marriedtothesea.

I do appreciate seeing companies reach into the heritage of their past designs and reissuing them as opposed to slapping something together that doesn’t do anything but reflect this year’s trends and dilute themselves from a differentiation standpoint. For example, PF Flyers is experiencing a bit of a resurrection due to this approach (although I am not sure what else they would have to bring to the table). Now witness Nike bringing back the Killshot ‘VNTG’ with a bit of retro styling to accent the old skool tennis shoe’s low profile silhouette. In stores this summer, these will feature a red or blue accented colorway contrasting with an ‘early 80’s computer housing beige’ construction as opposed to the traditional white. I love ‘em but wouldn’t trade in my throwback New Balance 574’s just yet. Via bespokeordie.

I don’t surf. Never have, maybe never will but if I did I would be all over the Lovebird by Bing Surfboards. Proving that innovation in materials and design doesn’t need to be constrained to the consumer electronics industry, Bing innovates by turning each of this series of longboards into a functional piece of art….Of sorts, that is. Each are hand-crafted with a unique fabric inlay deck patch (which along with the board’s color is chosen by each customer), pigmented bottom wrap and custom fin.

I don’t know if anyone else in their industry does this, but offering the ability for customers to select their own fabric/material for where they place their feet for improved grip and performance is something that sets them apart from their competition. One can only hope that they are one step away from experimenting with neoprene, 200 grit sandpaper, and materials developed by 3M with no direct commercial application to date. Am I in the wrong business? Should I rush off to a patent office–maybe not.
