too busy….

http://www.vimeo.com/10889285

To even blog today–preparing for a new job with HR and all that is a total pain in the ass that probably keeps people from moving around more than anyone would care to admit. In the meantime enjoy ‘97 polysiloxane hoses,’ the latest sound installation by Zimoun. Little more than plastic hoses that are drilled through a table top with compressed air flowing through the small tubes which generates unique sounds and movements. Via TodayandTomorrow.

mirror man

mirror-man-of-la_1

The Mirror Man of Los Angeles doesn’t need to be an exceptional street performer. With an outfit like this he could be limited to mediocre robot dancing abilities and be just fine. In a suit made up of hundreds of mirrors covering from head to toe you don’t need much more.  Since it’s LA I would assume that there are plenty of people putting together knock-off versions of the costume at the moment, most looking more like a ghetto disco ball at best. This guy is either a glazer or lives behind a frame shop. Via thecoolist

Red had a really good run this week. Time to change things up.

Basically camera experiments with some nicely sync’d up sounds. Seems to have a foundation rooted in random objects interacting with gravity. Puzzlingly effective and yet bare bones minimal.

left vs. right infographic

About time someone mapped this out in order to explain it to the masses. Unfortunately the details are lost with a digital representation of the chart in question. Purchase one of the 200 print run limited edition here for $45. Via InformationIsBeautiful.

Forget the watches (not quite my style), I’m in it for animations like the one above. Via Kronikle.

brand inversion

branders

I love how someone mashed these two up. As such I wish I could cite it properly, having come from a random Tumblr site. What makes it wickedly effective is how well the logos scale to each package–it’s seamless enough to make most people do a double take. Anti-Pop Art, anyone?

futura gallery show

http://www.vimeo.com/10716593

Seems like Futura keeps getting interviews posted to the interwebs these days. Since he has been hailed as the ‘father of modern grafitti’ it’s as if his influance and exposure has grown a bit. It must be nice to be a self-fulfilling prophecy. It goes to show that longevity, work ethic, and moving to Japan can all work out to your advantage.  Still not sure if Graf is ‘high art,’ (if people will pay for it then it’s art?) but since that’s subjective in nature lets all give this a pass for now.

wpa-style city posters

sanfranThrowback look/feel is definitely achieved here in an odd subset of American cities rendered in 14x 24 serigraph prints from design collective theheadsofstate. I heart the fact they only cost about $30 (before shipping) and would look very decent up on the wall next to some hipster concert posters. Via HypeBeast.

no point in….

no-point-in-yellow

I would love to own one of Jan Maarten Voskuil’s “There Is No Point In …” paintings. Taking the concept of having a canvas and twisting it as such provides a hybrid painting/sculpture that one can appreciate from several vantage points. Best part is the artist kept the surface almost devoid of detailing, placing focus on the treatment of the form via the use of simple geometry rather than a painted image. Via TodayAndTomorrow.
