I want a set of these without having to make the trip to Japan. Why does this happen to me for products like once a month? IIDA, please find a state-side vendor already!

I want one, but want to build one myself even more. These hand made beaties are crafted from 5/8” beech wood casing, and old-school red LED clock smoked acrylic faces . Love the faux speaker pattern. From a components and wiring standpoint these really don’t seem all that difficult to be honest. If you prefer to pay for that DIY look all seem to be around the $100 range, you can get them here.

I love the fact that to people in product development and marketing this is what an ‘unboxing’ should be like. Sadly, this isn’t the case for any manufacturer other than Apple. Awesome ad work for a somewhat ‘uninspiring’ client.

Camcorders aren’t the most ’sexy’ of products out there today, but being squeezed on the high end (prosumer RED) and low end (Flip, Kodak) simultaneously has pushed some long-standing players in this space to quite literally ‘innovate or die.’ Above is an image of the high end HMX-R10 HD, which is the top of the product line hawtness. It definitely has more than enough bells and whistles to get the job done (too many to list here), and can do so with some nice styling.

For my budget I prefer the SMX-C20UN, which comes in looking a bit cheaper but surprsingly feature-rich with 10x optical zoom and on-board editing and uploading directly to YouTube for $200. So what’s the big deal? In terms of platforming and product design one thing they get right, that no one else has, is the ergonomically friendly tilt angled lens. For extended use something like this is a must-have so I hope they found a way to craft a utility patent out of it’s reorientation. Since Samsung is becoming one of the largest state-side IP filers out there I’m sure they covered their bases well…Via Engadget, where you can find some more detailed reviews.

I hate covering concepts since almost anyone can dream something up that is sculpturally perfect because you don’t have to take how it works into consideration. I will gladly make an exception in this case since the solution is not only aesthetically pleasing but functionally advanced compared to the one I have at home, with which you have a detachable reservoir (which has to be inverted to return to it’s base) and lots of complex curves and angles to clean out on a regular basis. Plus it’s fugly.

In this case the reservoir is also separate from the electronic component but it has a handle for portability. Thats a big plus when you have to lug it back and forth to the tub for refilling all the time. What works best about this is how the object is boiled down to it’s core and then built from the bottom up with an emphasis on the basics. Check out more from the up-and-coming nyc studio here.
I wondered if fledgling brand Lenovo was going to survive without the help of it’s former namesake, IMB. If the s10-3t is any indication it would appear that (barring reviews about performance issues) as a manufacturer they will be just fine. In a bit of a mash-up this netbook has iPad style functionality and some decent styling. A steel-hinged touchscreen display pivots 180 degrees and also folds down over the keyboard into a tablet. Seems like you can type or swipe just as easily at netbook prices, but since multitouch isn’t supported until Windows 7 and most netbooks can barely handle XP I’m not sure how well it will actually work. ….Seen between $490 and $550 here.
After being limited to coffee presses and other beverage-based accessories Bodum recently made a bold move pushing into the broader space of kitchen accessories. Since their brand name is strong it’s not a stretch by any means but the design language of the products themselves is definitely worth noting. They literally reached into their past to find legacy designs from Sottsass that may not have been manufacturable at the time and rolled them out in bold colors, which help to reinforce their roll out as a family of products. Remember how awesome this scene from 1995’s Johnny Mnemonic was at the time? I mean, you could surf the internet with the exotic combination of the Powerglove and Geordi LaForge’s visor. Plus the web was an immersive 3-D experience, which we can only hope it will someday be. Or not.
Hackers and it’s montages competed with Keanu in ‘95. Their vision, much less future-focused but no less 3D, was driven more by adoration of the young Angelina Jolie than non existent tech hardware. Zero Cool+meatspace automation+sunglasses= success. Just wanted to share a slice of the past and what the internet promised to be in light of it’s present-day state.

Check out some incredibly helpful .psd templates for both ipad and iphone screen designs. Kind of ran into a few similar approaches to these on several different sites in the past although these seem work the best for me. Thats not to say that there isn’t a little re-work required here and there, but isn’t that the case with all templates? Via InformationArchitects.
